Pre-Surgical & Bariatric Evaluations
Pre-Surgical & Bariatric Evaluations
Bariatric psychological evaluations help physicians and insurance companies determine eligible candidates for weight loss and bariatric surgeries.
Given the immense amount of time, effort, and cost involved, it’s important for clients to mentally prepare before undergoing their weight loss or bariatric surgery. A bariatric psychological assessment allows a licensed psychologist to identify any current mental health conditions that can affect post-op outcomes. These pre-surgical psychological evaluations also pinpoint emotional barriers that may prove challenging after surgery.

Here are some of the most common questions that people ask us about our pre-surgical and bariatric psychological evaluations.
How much does a pre-surgical or bariatric psychological evaluation cost?
The cost of a pre-surgical or bariatric psychological evaluation is $550 USD.
There’s a $150 USD non-refundable scheduling fee for pre-surgical or bariatric testing to cover the time spent in preparation for the testing session.
Are pre-surgical and bariatric evaluations covered by my insurance?
Probably. However, our psychologists are out-of-network (OON) providers, which means they don’t accept insurance. You may still be able to work with us if your insurance plan has OON benefits. Here’s how it works:
You pay us directly and we’ll give you a receipt called a superbill that you’ll send to your insurance company. Your insurance company will determine either #1 apply the amount on the superbill towards your deductible, or #2 if you’ve met your annual deductible, you will be reimbursed a percentage of the amount on the superbill.
What tests are used in your pre-surgical and bariatric psychological evaluations?
In addition to lengthy clinical history and a review of medical records, you will be asked to complete behavioral and emotional questionnaires. The whole process takes about 2 hours total.
Will the pre-surgical and bariatric psychological evaluation give diagnosis, recommendations, etc.?
Yes. Our evaluations address the client’s clinical history, explain all the test administered and results, draw conclusions that integrate the clinical history and test results, provide any applicable diagnoses, and offer recommendations and next steps to follow through with related to the surgical procedure.
How long are pre-surgical and bariatric psychological evaluations good for?
About 1 year on average. It’s really up to who is using your evaluation’s results, though.
Are you qualified to do pre-surgical and bariatric psychological testing?
