I know what it’s like to feel anxious.dr joyce szentpaly psychologist miami ocd therapy erp

Originally from South America, I felt incredibly anxious as I experienced culture shock and language barriers when I came to the US as a young adult.  My anxiety made it more difficult to communicate since I couldn’t understand or speak well enough to be understood.  Feeling helpless, I found myself avoiding phone calls or relying on my brother for help.  In fact, I still get nervous when it comes to public speaking even many years after learning English and countless presentations.

So I understand how you’re feeling.

I’m Joyce Szentpaly, a licensed psychologist serving Miami, FL, and the surrounding neighborhoods of Coral Gables, Brickell, Doral, Pinecrest, and South Miami. My own struggles sparked my interest in the best ways to overcome anxiety, which turned into my specialty when I became a psychologist.

I’m proof that you don’t have to let anxiety stop you from living your life.

Because I didn’t quit doing the things that I value and enjoy, now I’m able to help people overcome depression and many types of anxiety disorders, including panic attacks, social anxiety/social phobia, fear and phobias, maladaptive perfectionism, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and related conditions like hoarding, Body Dysmorphic disorder (BDD), and Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRB). And I can do it with more empathy and compassion, having been in my clients’ shoes.

Learn More About My Clinical Style & Approach

Being a clinical psychologist not only has taught me about mental health and mental illness, but most importantly how to help others and oneself. I like to work collaboratively with people, finding common goals. My treatment of choice is Cognitive Behavior Therapy, which is a structured intervention that focuses in learning about negative or unhelpful thinking patterns, ways to manage emotions, gain effective coping strategies, improve communication and problem-solving skills among others. Although having a plan facilitates the therapy process, I am also flexible, recognize individual differences and like to meet people where they are at, and adapt to their pace. I am open and honest, provide a safe and nonjudgmental environment, offer support and encouragement, and welcome feedback.

I’m ready to help you take your next step towards the life you want.
